  4. Benefits of play • Play is the work of childhood. • Play is interaction with the real world. • Play is how a child learns. • Play allows children to develop in physical, social, emotional and cognitive development.

  6. Documentation of Learning • Teachers and assistants observe and document play to identify the next stage of learning (against the written, taught and assessed curriculum)

  8. Physical Skills • Using tools and mastering how to use these. • Development of fine motor skills • Hand-eye coordination • Manual dexterity and control of hand movements

Play in First Language • Allows children to formulate ideas in their first language. • If your child has a good grounding in their first language they will transfer skills to another language easily and quickly. • Children will learn at different rates. • Children will express themselves in a new language when they are ready.

Integrated Learning Throughout the day there is a balance of teacher led, focussed activities, student led play and structured inquiry. • Language: Expanding English vocabulary, Pre-emergent reading and writing, ( recognising name, writing name, recognising letters and their sounds, listening to and retelling stories, creating stories) communication skills. • Mathematics: Number to 10 and beyond, patterns,2D and 3 D shapes, collecting data, measurementand comparative language • Arts:Visual, musical, dramatic movement • Science: Exploration of our world • Social Studies: Who we are • Physical, Social and Personal Education:Movement and spatial awareness, fine motor control, collaboration, being responsible

  23. How can I help my child at home? • Read to them daily/parent workshops • Listen to their stories. • Go on nature walks. • Play with them at their level. • Give your child structure and boundaries. • Be consistent.
