Farmers cause political change Click Here • Farmers are the most important people in any civilization because they feed the population • Farmers many times do not own the land that they farm • In Athens, the landowners were getting rich while the farmers were going into debt • The farmers wanted a say in politics and government so that they could live within Athenian society

Tyranny leads to democracy Click Here • Two tyrants worked for reforms that led to democracy: • Draco created the first written laws with severe punishments (622 BCE/BC) • Solon replaced Draconian law and improved the legal system, as well as expanded participation in the Assembly (594 BCE/BC) No not that Draco!
