  2. IRAN’S ANCIENT PAST Iran has many ancient ruins, such as the walls of the Kingdom of Elam. This is the site of the Ali Springs in Reh.

  3. IRAN’S ANCIENT PAST The city of Bam was an important trading center along the Silk Roads. It is also the site of a huge 2003 earthquake that killed tens of thousands of people. This royal mosque dates from the 17th century.

  4. IRAN’S ANCIENT PAST These are the ruins of Darius’ palace. Darius was the greatest leader of the Persian Empire. Darius ordered this monument to be built. It has the longest cuneiform inscription in the world.

  5. IRAN’S ANCIENT PAST The Azadi Square Freedom Monument commemorates the establishment of the Persian Empire 2,500 years ago.

  6. IRAN TODAY Tehran is the capital of Iran. It is a modern city with many conveniences. At night the city lights up.

  7. IRAN TODAY Iranians often shop at bazaars. The bazaars sell almost everything.

  8. IRAN TODAY Iranians like to go to the resort town of Damavand to ski. We also have amusement parks like this one in Tehran.
