Research Took students from the Police Study Program at the University of Regina and put them through the RCMP firearms program only the testing (two bench marks and Final Qualification) were done with live fire Result was that they performed statistically the same as Cadets taking the same program. Current testing – TROOP 5 is undergoing the same virtual program and at Bench Mark 1 have demonstrated the same level of skill typical of cadets at that point in training.

  6. Why Use Virtual Training? Once we can say that the outcomes are the same and there is no loss in skills we can create a hybrid program which is a combination of live and virtual training. Because of the safety of the virtual range we will be able to expand the shooting program to include more movement. Because of the programmability of the range we will be able to have more recognition/response drills. Targets will be able to move more freely and resemble people rather than targets.

Part Two: Using the same testing criteria find if there is improvement in performance over eight training events. Part Three: Using the same testing criteria test members with different lengths of police service

Phase One: Creates a base line for untrained people Phase Two: Demonstrates that there is a change (improvement) in performance (or not) Phase Three: Helps to better identify what skills need refreshing and how often so that Operational Skills Maintenance better reflects the gaps in performance. Thus making the cost and time of OSM more effective.

  10. Basic Police Driving Skills: What are the applications? Evaluation of subjects in conditions which the facilitator can control Teaching of high risk maneuvers prior to having to do them in real world situations. RCMP – Depot

  11. Basic Police Driving Skills: Research has indicated 7 times through intersection clearing is the best number of simulations to achieve expected outcomes of performance. Research has also proven that the skills learned on the simulator or transferable to the real world testing. RCMP – Depot

  12. Basic Police Driving Skills: RCMP are now using them to teach monologue hazard recognition radio work task sequencing (multi tasking) Even prior to getting into a vehicle! RCMP – Depot

  13. Basic Police Driving Skills: Advantage: Safety controlled environment Student instructor ratio increase able to create “chunking of information” Because students have basic skills the time one on one in the vehicle is more effective! RCMP – Depot

  14. RESEARCH: No research is done during the Cadet Training Program unless prior research indicates that it will not negatively effect the cadet. RCMP – Depot

  15. RESEARCH: The cadet training program is Intelligence led. It uses research to make informed decisions on training methodologies to enhance the training experience for the Cadet, better preparing them for Police work. Through research we have training which will withstand the rigor of external review. RCMP – Depot
