  1. My Experience at the Learning Zone By: Griselda Picazo Beep 4384 Dr. Amaro

  2. Goals for the Learning Center • To improve literacy and learning skills. • Increase students’ motivation and self-esteem. • Improve students’ performance in school. • Help students successfully complete their homework.

  3. Location I did my field placement at the East Arlington Public Library. I had the opportunity to go on Tuesdays from 6:00-7:30 and Thursday from 4:00-5:30.

  4. Continue…. This field experience gave me theopportunity to interact with children and help them improve their school work. During my service learning I had the chance to work with different children that had different needs.

  5. During my first day I worked with Abraham who is six years old and is in 1st grade. I began to understand the concept of phonological awareness, when he began reading a book. I think it’s incredible the way children discover that each letter make a sound and once is put together it makes a word. I enjoy coming to the learning zone and putting the things that I learn in to practice. Continue…..

  6. Continue… • The learning zone has become very important to me because I am able to implement what I’m learning in my courses. Today was my first time working with Kimberly. Kimberly is a very smart girl that is in third grade. She gave me a picture of a snake and we played a board game called Money Bag.

  7. Continue….. Today I helped Kimberly with her math and spelling homework. I helped her understand different concepts using visuals and hands on activities.

  8. Continue…..The children at the school zone enjoyed the educational board games provided by the program. These games allowed children to use critical thinking and at the same time it motivated and engaged the students.

  9. Continue…… During my visits to the Learning zone, reading was very important to help create fluency in their reading. The students had the opportunity to choose the books that interested to them.

  10. Continue….. Today Kimberly and I worked with division flashcards. I was able to teach her a new method on how to solve the equations. She used a dry erase board and markers to help her visualize the equation better.

  11. Continue….. Today I arrived at the Learning Zone and Kimberly surprised me with a card that she had made me. I have enjoyed working with Kimberly she is a very sweet girl. Today I continued working with her. I feel that I have build a strong positive friendly relationship with Kimberly. I’m just sad the semester is almost over. Front 1st page 2nd page

  12. Summary The Learning Zone is a great program. Being a part of it has been rewarding for me because I was able to help children with their school studies. Each day at the Learning Zone was a new learning experience. It has motivated to continue preparing myself into becoming a good bilingual teacher.
