  3. Found in: • Thousands of other proteins • Plants • Animals • BUT not bacteria

  4. Function/Regulation: • The expression of genes • Assembly of viruses • Reverse transcription • Nucleic acid recognition • Stabilizes and solidifies DNA and RNA

  5. Structure: • Main structure: • 1 tetrahedron • - 2 Cysteines • - 2 Histidines • - 1 zinc ion

  6. Structure: The other 15-25 amino acids all face more-or-less outwards, and can be used for various functional tasks

  7. Significance: • Tiny protein that helps with DNA related work • Researchers are currently trying to design artificial zinc fingers with different specificities
