  1. Title of the Project: Setting-up of Information and Facilitation Centre for Empowering Living of Schedule Caste in Jharkhand State Implementing agency: CSIR-CIMFR, Dhanbad, Jharkhand. Chief Investigator: Dr. S. K. Chaulya, MMTD Group, CSIR-CIMFR Duration of Project: 4 years (1 year development & installation+3 years operation and maintenance) Aims and Objective of the Project: • Setting-up of information and facilitation centre • Sensor based soil testing for improving agriculture productivity • E-Marketing of local products and preserving of SC culture • IT and IoT based product development and technology transfer

  2. Project Brief: Facilities at the Centre Project scheme for setting-up of information and facilitation centre 2

  3. On-line Soil Fertility Monitoring System • An optical transducer will be used to measure and detect the presence of Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P) and Potassium (K) of soil. • The N, P, and K value of the sample are determined by absorption light of each nutrient. • The optical transducer is implemented as a detection sensor which consists of three LEDs as light source and a photodiode as a light detector.

  4. IT based Faciliation Centre Development of IoTbased soil analysis sensors • Setting-up of computer training centre with trainer • Development of IoTbased soil and fertility monitoring sensors • NPK Analysis for soil fertility assessment • Employment information, education facility in school and colleges Advice on economic importance of crop and trees Advice on suitable fertilizer • Skill acquisition and knowledge awareness for live hood promotion • Preservation and promotion of local culture Preparation of soil fertility map and maintaining land records • Provide information about government schemes and facilities IoTbased weather forecasting App for better agriculture planning • Health care and nutrition awareness • Setup of Emergency Information & Response System

  5. IT and IoT based Product Development and ToT • E-Marketing Cell • Development of E-Platform for marketing of products with Apps and websites • Improvement of village products using new technology • Making of economically feasible products by transferring new technology to the villagers E-Marketing of agricultural products, food and handicraft items Local herbal medicine marketing Handcraft items, food products, ornaments, furniture, show pieces, cloths, silk products • Creation of bridges between researchers and rural people for transfer of knowledge for product development Formation of society and linkages with banks and industries for financing • Interaction with FICCI, Ministry of Commerce and Government organisations for support

  6. Innovation and R&D component:

  7. Outcome & Deliverable: • Setting-up of information and facilitation center • The center will be completely IT based using various communication modules thereby enabling local population to connect to mainstream of India • Developing market place to sell local products • Imparting placement training to local population so that they become job ready • Imparting education through online classes for local masses • Imparting knowledge to build water harvesting and health care • Fertilizer mapping to improve productivity of agriculture products using sensors

  8. Outlay of the project and break-up of major heads

  9. Implementation Site: Contacted with Village Pancahyat of • JharnaVillage, • ChandankiyariBlock, • Jharkhand Tie-up with Industry/ End User: Thank you

  10. NPK Soil Sensor • An optical transducer will be used to measure and detect the presence of Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P) and Potassium (K) of soil. Such transducer is needed to decide how much extra contents of these nutrients are to be added to the soil to increase soil fertility. This can improve the quality of soil and reduces the undesired use of fertilizers to be added to the soil. • The N, P, and K value of the sample are determined by absorption light of each nutrient. • The optical transducer is implemented as a detection sensor which consists of three LEDs as light source and a photodiode as a light detector. • The wavelength of LEDs is chosen to fit the absorption band of each nutrient. The nutrient absorbs the light from LED and the photodiode convert the remaining light that is reflected by reflector to current. • The system utilizes an Arduino microcontroller for data acquisition therefore the output from the transducer is converted into a digital display reading. Testing on various samples of soils, showed that the optical transducer can evaluate the amounts of NPK soil content as High, Medium and Low.

  11. ArduinoMega • ArduinoMega (ATmega2560) • Frequency range: 434 MHz • Transmitter supply voltage: 3-6 V • Transmitting power: 10 mW • Transfer rate: 4 kbps • Range in open space: 100 m • ArduinoNano • Arduino Nano (ATmega168-20AU) • Receiver frequency: 434 MHz (Crystal oscillator) • Receiver typical sensitivity: 105 dB • Receiver supply current: 3.5 mA • Receiver operating voltage: 5 V • Emergency switches

  12. Caste-wise Population - ChandankiyariBlock, Jharkhand Schedule Caste (SC) constitutes 25.3% while Schedule Tribe (ST) were 8.2% of total population in ChandankiyariBlock: Total Male Female Schedule Caste 58,208 29,830 28,378 Schedule Tribe 18,971 9,667 9,304 Working Population - Chandankiyari Block In Chandankiyari Block out of total population, 86,666 were engaged in work activities. 36.8% of workers describe their work as Main Work (Employment or Earning more than 6 Months) while 63.2% were involved in Marginal activity providing livelihood for less than 6 months. Of 86,666 workers engaged in Main Work, 7,543 were cultivators (owner or co-owner) while 4,084 were Agricultural labourer.
