CHALLENGES FACING THE TEACHING OF SCIENCE: Some misconceptions/ wrong attitudes : production jobs like brick making are considered for failures, degrees and certificates matter more than production, girls are not meant for Science, science is for whites and very difficult Schooling without production Noninvolvement of the Environment in the teaching and learning process. Failure to integrate the existing world of science into the school system Emphasis on Examinations rather than learning and transformation Few Science Teachers and misuse of the few ( Mungopacking) Un assertive scientists/ engineers Ill equipped teacher:

SOLUTIONS Continue popularizing Government programs Document existing science and technology programs or activities from outside and inside formal school Show the above programs popularly for mass appreciation Create Science Centers Arrange Science Fairs- quote NCS&T+ LOGEL PROJECT Mount science and technology Exhibitions Quote NCS&T Examine and adjust the training of the teacher(Quote findings on inappropriateness about the teacher in TOP SECRETS OF EDUCATING YOUR CHILD, Famecon 2009 page 108) Open popular universal sensitization and training of the population

OPPORTUNITIES Document existing science and technology programs or activities from outside and inside formal school Emerging Common markets and Regional bodies Efforts towards African Union Common realization of a common challenge Emerging New World Powers: China, India, Brazil Existing old Friends like USA, BRITAIN Growing industrialization Existing Science Programs like SESEMAT in Uganda Universal sensitization and training of the population OTHER PARTNERS IN UGANDA (Secondary Science and Mathematics Teachers Program (SESEMAT), National Consultants, Ministry of Education (MoE), Uganda Manufactures association, National Council for Science and Technology.
