  1. Introduction Slide 1 Tutorial Unlock the “POWER” of V6.1 Searching and Shopping Tour To navigate through this Tutorial, use your mouse, or your Page Up or Down Keys

  2. Introduction Slide 2 With the improved V6.1, Catalog searching couldn’t be easier!

  3. Instruction Slide 1 You must be a registered shopper or orderer to be able to view item prices, build shopping carts, and proceed to final checkout. You may otherwise “Shop as a Guest” which allows very limited shop and search functions without the need to register.

  4. Instruction Slide 2 If already registered, let’s begin. Enter your User Name and Password then Login

  5. Instruction Slide 3 After login, a DOD Users Policy Page will display. Choosing Exit will advance you to the next screen but the Policy Page will display upon every subsequent login. In this tutorial, choose “Exit and do not show policy page again”.

  6. Instruction Slide 4 Now logged in, begin an item search by clicking on the “Catalog Search” button found under the “Shop” tab.

  7. Instruction Slide 5 Depending on how you registered, your search might begin on a service or agency-specific landing page. For this Army registrant example, the search page defaults to the Army Corridor Landing Page with Army Office Supply BPAs displayed as the starting point for an item search.

  8. Instruction Slide 6 Click here if you need to change the Region/Special Codes for order delivery to a different part of the country. Remember, for accurate pricing, if you order for delivery to different parts of the country, you must change your Region/Special Codes to match that area’s code.

  9. Instruction Slide 7 At this screen, you can change the postal code or add/change a DODAAC or Catalog Access code

  10. Instruction Slide 8 An error message will appear if an improperly formatted value is entered. Another dialog box will explain the error.

  11. Instruction Slide 9 Once the proper zip code and DODAAC are submitted, they are posted in the Region/Special Codes line as a reminder.

  12. Instruction Slide 10 From this “Landing Page”, use the pull-down menu to view and choose other corridors for searching or shopping.. Depending on your registration “permissions”, you might not be able to access or order from certain corridors!

  13. Instruction Slide 11 Using the pull-down menu, let’s begin a search in “All of DOD EMALL” using the keyword “bolt”. Click “Search”…

  14. Instruction Slide 12 Your search for “bolt” returned 82,339 items. You can sort the results by use of the “Sort By” drop down menu. Click to view the menu.

  15. Instruction Slide 13 The “Sort By” menu allows you to sort by price, supplier name, or ranking based on keyword used. Let’s sort by “Supplier”…

  16. Instruction Slide 14 Note that a sort does not reduce the number of items searched, but merely allows you to list them in a different order. We will “refine” the search to reduce the findings in a moment… 3M is the first supplier listed after the sort by “Supplier”. You can change the “Order” of suppliers by using the “Ascending” or “Descending” menu option.

  17. Instruction Slide 15 Above your search results, DOD EMALL lists the “Most Frequent Matches” within its category database to the word “bolt”. This feature gives you another option to direct your search to a likely category. Try it. Click on “BOLT,MACHINE”…

  18. Instruction Slide 16 Note that every search creates a search history, the results of which can be retrieved. The 82,339 items identified as a “bolt” in our “All of DOD EMALL” search have now been reduced to 20,179 by limiting our “bolt” search to the BOLT,MACHINE category. Let’s narrow the search even further…(next slide)

  19. Instruction Slide 17 While still in the BOLT,MACHINE category, add the keyword “a” to the word “bolt” and hit Search…

  20. Instruction Slide 18 The search has now been reduced to just 3 items. If your item appears in the results, you can add the desired quantity to a cart or go to another search.

  21. Instruction Slide 19 Let’s search another way since we restricted our search to the “BOLT, MACHINE” category in “All of DOD EMALL”. Clicking the X removes the category restriction and allows a search across all categories again…

  22. Instruction Slide 20 Note the category “BOLT,MACHINE” is no longer displayed in the Current Search line. Let’s search for “bolt machine” again, but this time by adding the keyword “machine” and searching across all categories within DOD EMALL.

  23. Instruction Slide 21 21,508 items with the keyword “bolt machine” were found in the All of DOD EMALL corridor. Let’s refine the search further…

  24. Instruction Slide 22 Once again, add “a” to the keywords “bolt machine” and click Search…

  25. Instruction Slide 23 Note the new keywords used in the search appear in the Current Search line. Our search results have now been reduced to 324 items. This compares to 3 items found when we restricted the same keyword search to the “BOLT,MACHINE” category.

  26. Instruction Slide 24 We can view item details now by clicking on the item name, but let’s do a side-by-side comparison between the first two items…(next screen)

  27. Instruction Slide 25 After checking the boxes of the items to be compared against one another, click on the “Compare Selected” button…

  28. Instruction Slide 26 From this page, we can compare the attributes of these 2 items and add one or both to our cart, select one or both to compare against other items, view images of the items which display a camera icon, or go to a whole new search. Click on the camera icon to view the item…

  29. Instruction Slide 27 A vendor supplied image of the item is displayed. Click on the X to close the image window…

  30. Instruction Slide 28 If you wish to compare both items against those in another search, check “Select All” or just check the appropriate box or boxes of those to be compared.

  31. Instruction Slide 29 This comparison can be retrieved later by clicking on the “Product Comparisons” tab on the top task bar. Now, click “Return to Search”…

  32. Instruction Slide 30 Instead of searching with keywords, you can search by National Stock Number (NSN) or item (part) number. Be aware that an NSN search in “All of DOD EMALL” can result in a DLA, GSA, or a commercial NSN. In searching for an NSN, you may be able to narrow your findings by using the drop down menu and choosing one of the three options. In this case, enter the NSN which equals 7045014839271.

  33. Instruction Slide 31 The NSN search within “All of DOD EMALL” was matched to 24 items. You can sort as before and add to your cart. But before moving on…(Next slide)

  34. Instruction Slide 32 Rolling your cursor over the “Gold Ribbon” icon displays a definition box which says this NSN is a Commercially Certified NSN. Click on the icon…

  35. Instruction Slide 33 The item, identified by the “Gold Ribbon” icon, represents a Commercially Certified NSN. BE AWARE that a commercially certified NSN may or may not be identical to a Government certified NSN. If you are required to use a DOD/DLA NSN, do not use a “Gold Ribbon” NSN. Click on the X to close this window…

  36. Instruction Slide 34 We are going to search in a different corridor. Clear this search…

  37. Instruction Slide 35 Once again using the drop down menu, select “NSNs Only”…

  38. Instruction Slide 36 Again, heed the NSN Warning statement! If you need a DLA NSN, do not substitute with a commercial NSN or rely solely on an item or part number match!

  39. Instruction Slide 37 Enter NSN 1005014806091 and search for it under the “NSNs Only” corridor.

  40. Instruction Slide 38 The NSN was found to be a BOLT,BREECH and available from DSCC. Like before, click on the item name for a description of the item.

  41. Instruction Slide 39 After a review of the item details, this is an item we want so we are going to add 5 to our cart. Click “Add”…

  42. Instruction Slide 40 We can modify this addition to our cart if we want. Note in the “Cart Summary” line above, the line count is now 1 and the running sum total of our cart reflects the 5 BOLT,BREECH to be ordered.

  43. Instruction Slide 41 Let’s go back to the previous screen. Click “Back”…

  44. Instruction Slide 42 Note that a change in the number ordered can be made from this screen too. To clear this search, click the “Clear” button…

  45. Instruction Slide 43 Let’s try another type of search in “All of DOD EMALL” using the keywords “bolt machine” again. Click search…

  46. Instruction Slide 44 Our search resulted in 21493 items. This time we are going to refine our search only to those which have an NSN. Click on the “All NSNs” link…

  47. Instruction Slide 45 Our results have been limited to 20389 items matching our keywords and having an NSN in their description. You can refine the results further by clicking on the Class 2 or Class 9 links or by confining search to the Federal Catalog System. Click on FCS link…

  48. Instruction Slide 46 Under FCS, the results can be under Hardware and Abrasives, Metalworking Machinery, or Weapons. Click on the “Weapons” link…

  49. Instruction Slide 47 Our results have been narrowed to just three items and were found in the “Guns, through 30mm” category under “Weapons” under the Federal Catalog System.

  50. Instruction Slide 48 Clear this search..
