  1. Welcome to the gladiator team!

  3. WHAT TO EXPECT… • There are a great deal of things that will help make 6th grade run smoooooothly!!!

  4. ATTENDANCE!!! BE THERE OR BE SQUARE! • If you Are ABSENT: • Send in note or email explaining your student's absence to his or her 2nd period teacher! • After 3 UNEXCUSED ABSENCES you will receive a letter from the school! This will lead to Truancy Court!

  5. But, my beloved child is sick! • There is not a full time nurse at school; therefore, when your child is sick, our only course of action is to have him/her call home. If your child is absent for more than two days or you anticipate that your child will be absent for an extended period, please contact the guidance office (560-3859) to request his/her work.

  6. Requesting work • Teachers require a 24 hour time period to gather work and turn it in to the guidance office. If work is requested, it should be picked up, completed, and turned in within five days of the student's return to school. • If you request work, the work is expected to be picked up and completed!

  7. TARDINESS TO THE PARTY • Continuous tardiness on team will result in: • Silent Lunch and team discipline • Three (3) tardies in the same class will result in After School Detention (ASD)

  8. READ ALL ABOUT IT! • It is the RESPONSIBILITY OF BOTH PARENT AND STUDENT to READ all POLICIES AND PROCEDURES IN THE CMS STUDENT HANDBOOK. WE WILL HOLD ALL PARTIES ACCOUNTABLE FOR SCHOOL-WIDE POLICIES. PLEASE, PLEASE FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF WITH POLICIES AND PROCEDURES AT CMS!

  9. Planners FOR 6TH GRADE LIFE • Students should write down the complete assignment for each class in their PLANNERS. • Parents should check the PLANNER nightly (or other Homework Resources) and look for the following: *notes from the teacher, *reminders about tests, quizzes, money due, updates about grades, and dates when progress reports will be sent out! If you write a note to a teacher, it is the student's responsibility to show the teacher the note!

  10. RELY ON SUPPLIES! • It is expected that your child has a: BINDER, PAPER, Dividers, PENCILS AND PENCILS AND PENCILS!

  11. PENCILS….AGAIN • IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT STUDENTS HAVE PENCILS and PAPER EVERYDAY FOR EVERY CLASS!!!! PENCILS SEEM TO GET EATEN IN THE 6th GRADE 

  12. Finders in your binders • On the first day of school, students should bring 3 inch Binder, Paper, Pencils and a Good Attitude! • Teachers will help students organize Binders during the first week. • Please Note: If your child is having a difficult time with organizing his or her notebook, we will help them and we also have older students that can help as well!

  13. Aww, man!! homework!?!? • Homework is expected on the day that it is due! • Students should spend an hour to an hour and a half each night (This does not include studying for tests or completing projects.) • Students are expected to write in full, complete sentences and SHOW all work in Math!!!!!!!

  14. Homework? But the germs got to me and I stayed home! • Homework can be found in several places: • 1. By contacting a friend/peer to verbally get the assignments. • 2. Our Homework Hotline: 919.560.3916 EXT. 16430 • 3. Our Gladiator Website: http://gladiatorteam.wordpress.com/ **This in your PAMPHLET/BROCHURE 

  15. Click, click, click, unlock the locker! • Students are assigned a locker only after they show that they can open their lock and a locker agreementhas been turned into the designated teacher. • Students can go to their lockers during the set team locker times: before 1st Period and after 4th period. • Please Note: Lockers should not become a distraction. • Lockers are a privilege; not a right.

  16. I have to go to the loo! • STUDENTS are given 3 BATHROOM PASSES, PER CLASS, PER QUARTER for EMERGENCY USE ONLY!

  17. Trips to the field! • We attempt to plan several FIELD TRIPS throughout the year! • If you would like to ATTEND as a Parent Chaperone, you MUST, MUST, MUST COMPLETE A DPS VOLUNTEER FORM….YOUR BROCHURE INCLUDES THE WEBSITE TO REGISTER. WE ALSO HAVE PAPER COPIES IN THE FRONT OFFICE 

  18. GLADIATORS WITH MANNERS • It is expected that each student: BE RESPECTFUL, BE COURTEOUS, KEEP HIS OR HER HANDS TO THEMSELVES!

  19. As a manner of fact.. • No horse playing is tolerated; administrators aretreating offenses as fights! • Students could receive In-School Suspension (ISS) orOut-of-School Suspension (OSS) • The excuse of “We were just playing is not acceptable!”

  20. As a manner of fact 2 • Any disciplinary action could result in loss of privileges: lockers, Team Days, Field Trips, Dances, School-Wide Events etc….

  22. Communication leads to liberation! • Please make sure that we have your correct phone number in case of an emergency. • Please give us your email(s) so that we may send you updates and reminders about what is going on at Carrington and on the Gladiator Team.

  23. 6th Grade principalgreen but with an ‘e’ • Mrs. Greene is our BELOVED 6th Grade Administrator! • Parents can contact your child's 6th grade assistant principal, Regina Greene at 560-3916 Ext._16240.

  24. A word from Exceptional Children • Math & Language Arts • Two teachers • Separate setting for testing • General education classroom setting

  25. IEP ACCOMMODATIONS • Based on annual IEP • Meetings are annual • Parent/teacher conferences appt. • Testing

  26. GUIDANCE COUNSELOR.MrS. REYNER • Your 6th Grade Guidance Counselor is Mrs. Linda Reyner. • She can be contacted at: linda.reyner@dpsnc.netor 560-3916 ext. 16314.

  27. Schedule that conference! • Set up conferences with guidance by calling 560-3916 ext. 16314 and speak with Linda Reyner! • The entire team meets with parents during available times on Tuesdays and upon request • We are unable to schedule our own conferences due to possible overlapping. • Phone conferences are available as needed

  28. LUNCH Our lunch time is from 10:50-11:15. If a student forgets his or her lunch or money, they may go through the line and get lunch. If the account is past due, then he or she can get a bag lunch. Please ensure your child has his or her lunch or money every morning before coming to school.

  29. FORMS WE NEED YOU TO GET IN SOON! • Data Form even if you know that you have already filled one out • Locker Agreement/Dress Code Your child will not get a locker without one. • Individual Teacher Course Outline Signed off! • Volunteer Form If you would like to help out with any team events • on campus or off campus (FIELD TRIPS), each person must fill out a form. • Student Handbook Book Agreement

  30. Students will have a competition to design the new Gladiator Team T-Shirt. Order Forms and the design will be sent home in a few weeks. The winning designer will receive a free t-shirt! Gladiator T-Shirts
