  2. The Art of Haircutting • Haircutting not only provides a service for our clients, but is an artist discipline. • For the artist, hair is the medium in which to sculpt a design, therefore, we must see, think and create as a designer http://people.uwec.edu/IRVINEKJ/images/hair.jpg

  3. Visual Elements- Seeing As An Artist • Develop a system of observation: • Form- Hair Shape • Texture of Hair • Hair color • Overall balance • Accenting Facial Features

  4. Elements of Form • When looking at a client’s existing hair style ask yourself… • Is the form existing complimentary? Why or Why not? • Can it be improved? • What form would complement their face shape?

  6. Elements of Line • Consider the different lines used in haircutting in your design- • Lines in Form • Lines of Texture • Lines in Color

  10. Inspiration • Learn to listen to your intuitions • Observe design elements in art, nature, landscape, animals, and architecture. • Explore creative possibilities!

Envision Your Design • Creating your design begins with the foundation of the haircut. • How should you section the hair for ease of cutting the hair? • What partings should be used? • What angles are needed to create the intended design? • What cutting tools will be needed to create the design? • What cutting techniques could be utilized?
