  2. WHAT ARE 4 – 8s like? They are active They love to chat They have short concentration spans They are active & imaginative They are just learning to read & write Their vocabulary is limited They like routine and repetition They love to ask questions They learn through personal experience

  3. SO....THE NEW PROGRAMME Is based round the Explorer’s life experiences:

  4. INVESTIGATE.... Our Homes: This n:vestigation looks at the importance and variety of homes - exploring what makes them special and happy places to live. God’s Family: This n:vestigation explores in simple terms what it means to be a Christian.

  5. THE NEW PROGRAMME ..... is based round questions which they investigate: Our Homes: Week 01 – Why do we need homes? Week 02 – What different homes do people live in? Week 03 – How can you welcome visitors into your home? Week 04 – What makes your home special? Week 05 – How can you help around your home?

  6. THE NEW PROGRAMME • ..... has a routine for each week to give • security • Within each week’s investigation there • are activities under five headings: • ‘Explore it! • ‘Dig deep!’ • ‘Get mucky!’ • ‘Jump up!’ • ‘Zoom in!’

  25. What awards will the explorers receive? • A new award system is being planned to launch in July 2011. • In the meantime: • 1 completed investigation = one metal badge/certificate • 4 completed investigations = 1 Explorer Star

  26. Be flexible • Adapt the timings • Decide who leads what • Change the activities • Add your own ‘signature’ • Create your own investigation • And if there is time to spare: • Add in more games, chat time, meeting with other sections, extra activities.

  27. Extra Weeks • Have a games evening. • Dedicate an evening to cooking or craft activities. • Focus on a seasonal evening with activities related to Christmas, Easter, Mothers Day, Comic Relief day etc.

  29. WHAT DOES THE PROGRAMME SEEK TO DO? Fulfil our mission amongst 4-8 year olds: ‘The word became flesh and blood and moved into the neighbourhood..’ John 1:14 (Msg)
