  5. Numeracy Strategies to Support Trainees

  6. Numeracy Check trainees have an understanding of 4 basic operations and units of measurementrelevant to workplace training Teach trainees how to use calculators Assist trainees to know situations in which estimation skills are appropriate Demonstrateaccurate use measuring equipment: calculators, gauges, thermometers. Check trainees understand language of numeracy Be consistent with terms used but explain connections between terms when new term is introduced.

Numeracy Provide practise in interpretation of graphs or numerical information in written documents, such as technical specifications Take time to practise numeracy and discuss different ways to solve numeracy problems Use a step-by-step procedure to assist trainees to solve numeracy problems Get to know the problem Decide what to do Estimate the answer Do the calculation Review or check your answer
