Week 2: January 25, 2009 • Read: • The practice of Business Statistics: Using Data for Decisions • Chapter 1, section 3 • Chapter 2, sections 1, 2, and 3 • Excel manual for the Practice of Business statistics • Chapter 1, section 3 • Chapter 2 • Do problems: • 1.75, 1.81, 1.93, 2.9, 2.13, 2.25, 2.33, 2.47, 2.49, 2.55

Week 2: January 25, 2009 • Hand-in Assignment • Due: Thursday Feb. 5 • Problem: 1.42 (page 34), • Use data in table 1.4 (page 23) to perform the following: • Make a histogram of the data with hand with intervals “0 <= damage <10,” “10 <= damage <20,” and so on .Describe the shape, center and spread of the distribution. Is there an outlier? • Problem 1.52 (page 45) In part ( c) also evaluate the standard deviation .

  6. Week 4: February 9 • Read: • The practice of Business Statistics: Using Data for Decisions • Chapter 2, sections 1 and 3 • Do problems: • 1.103, 1.105, 1.121,1.129, 1.31 • Hand –in assignment • Due Thursday February 19 • Problems 1.76, 1.78, 1.80, 1.86, 1.106,1.108.

  7. Week 5: February 16 • Exam 1 is on Thursday (2/19) • The first exam will cover Chapters 1 and sections 1 of chapter 2. • To prepare for the exam go over the lecture notes, practice problem handouts, and the homework problems assigned.

  8. Week 5: February 16 • There are one sample exam, and two practice exams on the course webpage. • Exam is closed book. • You can bring one 8.5  11 crib sheet that you have prepared in advance. • Calculator • Pencils
