  3. Why do I have to take the CEDLT? State and Federal law require schools to assess (test) the English proficiency of students whose primary (first) language is not English.

  4. Students from kindergarten to 12th grade take the CELDT.

  5. The CELDT has 4 parts: • Listening • Speaking • Reading • Writing

  6. CELDT Levels • Beginning- 1 • Early Intermediate- 2 • Intermediate- 3 • Early Advanced- 4 • Advanced- 5

  7. How often do I have to take the CELDT? • The CELDT is administered (given) once a year until you are reclassified.

  8. How do Iget reclassified? • Overall level of 4 or 5 on the CELDT without a subtest score of 3 or lower • Basic (3) or higher on the CST/ELA test • Grades of C or better in math, English, history, and science

  9. Why am I in ELD? • ELD (English Language Development) is for students at a level 3 on the CELDT. • The first month of class will focus on preparing you for the CELDT • After CELDT “boot camp” we will use a program called English 3D.

  10. English 3D • English 3D is a program that targets vocabulary, writing, speaking, and listening to help students achieve the high expectations of the new Common Core State Standards, and to succeed in college and career.

  11. What is your goal? • Tell your partner 1 goal you have for ELD class.
