South Texas College Dual Enrollment Program Dual Enrollment is a program that allows high school students to simultaneously earn college or vocational credit toward a post secondary certificate of degree that will also count as credit toward a high school diploma. Students remain at their local high school campus, enjoying the benefits of high school participation while earning college-level credit Student must complete his/her sophomore year, few exceptions Admissions Process: Step 1: Complete a Dual Enrollment Admissions Application Apply online at www.applytexas.org Step 2: Provide STC or Ms. Caro (STC Contact) a copy of your high school transcript; including TAKS, THEA or Accuplacer Scores Step 3: Meet with your high school counselor to select and register for Dual Enrollment classes

6. Fees: FREE!!! When the school district provides the instructor and classes are taken here at PSJA Memorial Ms. Solis’s school budget takes care of the tuition College books are provided by the school district *****unless the instructor requires additional textbooks, lab manuals, or ebooks. In this case the student may have to purchase the book and keep the receipt to be reimbursed by the school at the end of the semester or school yr. Proof of purchase and proof that the student completed the class is required. Additional weight will be awarded for Dual Credit classes (.5) The Student: The student must be COMMITTED ! Students enrolled in the dual enrollment program ARE college AND high school students; thus, the student must respect registration and withdrawal deadlines This semester the withdrawl deadline is November 18,2011 If a dual enrollment student wishes to drop a DC class, an explanation in writing must be submitted to Ms. Solis, before the drop can be done. Only after Ms. Solis approves the drop, student must fill out and sign a drop form with Ms. Caro for the drop to be processed. A “W” will appear on the student’s college transcript and may eventually effect financial aid later on in his/her college years.
7. STC Courses Offered at PSJA Memorial HS
8. Students who take classes at STC campus: Students may only attend classes at an STC Campus in the summer or afterschool, evenings, or weekends, not during school hours. Students will be charged tuition ($50 per credit hour) and will receive high school credit if the classes are completed successfully. Classes and summer registration are done at the college or online, payment is made to STC Student is responsible for taking transcript, TAKS, THEA, or Accuplacer scores to STC ****After classes are completed, student must bring an official STC transcript to their counselor so that the credit can be awarded on their high school transcript. Additional weight will be awarded for each college course taken.

Official Transcript Submit official verification of having met the criteria for one of the programs: Rank in the top 10 percent of your graduating class Have a 90 or above grade point average (based on grades in academic courses such as English, math, natural sciences, social studies and foreign languages) Score a minimum ACT composite of 22 Score a minimum SAT combined score of 1030 (Verbal/Critical Reading and Math)

Texas Success Initiative In compliance with Texas Success Initiative (TSI) requirements, you must either take a state-approved assessment or be exempt from TSI prior to attending orientation and enrolling in any college-level coursework. Your results will not be used for admission purposes. State-approved assessments include: THEA, ASSET, ACCUPLACER or COMPASS. You are TSI exempt if you submit verification that you have completed one of the following: TAKS (10th or 11th grade scores): 2200 Math and 2200 ELA with a Writing score of 3 ACT: 23 Composite with a 19 English and 19 Math SAT: 1070 combined score (Verbal/Critical Reading and Math) with a 500 Verbal/Critical Reading and 500 Math Testing Information For more information about THEA, ACCUPLACER, ACT or SAT testing dates and fees, contact: University Testing Services (956)-292-7584 or testing@utpa.edu
13. How to apply for UTPA Concurrent Enrollment? Go to the website online at http://www.applytexas.org and complete the application process. Complete the UTPA paper application that requires parental and school official signatures. Request Official Transcript & Individual TAKS Scores from MHS Registrar's Office. Turn in compiled information to Mrs. Gutierrez in the Counseling Department.

In order to compete for a slot in the top ten percent, a student must complete their four measures by December of their senior year. Two of the measures have to be core. The other two can be from an elective. All four can come out core classes.

27. Texas Compulsory Attendance Law requires that students attend school every day it is in session. (§ 25.085) Student may not be given credit for a subject unless they have attended 90% of the classes for that year. (§ 25.092) If a student is absent without excuse for three or more days or parts of days within a four-week period, the school must send a warning letter to the parents stating that they may be filed on in a court of law for a criminal truancy charge (filing is still optional). (§ 25.095) If a parent does not respond to warning letters, that parent may be charged with a criminal offense. (§ 25.093) If a student is absent without excuse for ten or more days or parts of days within a six-month period in the same school year, the school must file criminal truancy charges on the parent (s) and student. (§ 25.094)
28. Excused Absence EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITY: (i.e., athletics, UIL competition, band/choir performance, etc.). MENTOR: (i.e., an adult mentor visiting the student during class, or the student mentoring another student during class). MEDICAID APPOINTMENT: Student is Medicaid-eligible and is participating in the Early & Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment Program. RELIGIOUS HOLY DAY: Student is observing a religious holy day. Includes days of travel. (not to exceed one day’s travel to the site and one day’s travel from the site).
29. MEDICAID APPOINTMENT: Student is Medicaid-eligible and is participating in the Early & Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment Program. RELIGIOUS HOLY DAY: Student is observing a religious holy day. Includes days of travel. (not to exceed one day’s travel to the site and one day’s travel from the site). ILLNESS: Student may be excused due to personal illness or doctor’s appointment by providing a written note. COURT: Student is involved in court proceedings or in activity related to those court proceedings.
30. HUMAN SERVICES: Student has been referred to the Texas Department of Human Services or a county or local human services agency on the basis that he or she has been abused or is neglected. PRE-APPROVED REASON: Student required to attend school may be excused for temporary absence if approved by the principal of the school in which they attend. REMEMBER, IF A STUDENT IS ABSENT FOR A REASON NOT LISTED ABOVE, THEN THE ABSENCE IS UNEXCUSED. NOTES ARE REQUIRED FOR ALL ABSENCES AND THEY SHOULD BE TURNED IN TO THE ATTENDANCE CLERK WITHIN 48 HOURS.
31. NGs An NG (No grade) is given to students who are not present 10% or more in each class. Students need to make up absences on Saturdays to receive credit. Keep posted to announcements and our website for further info.
