  1. 4th Grade Parent Night Welcome! Please sign in and pick up the folder with your child’s name from the side “kidney” table. Please find the silhouette of your child’s head. Use the writing piece to help guide you to the right seat. Mrs. Taraborelli

  2. Basic Expectations for 4th Graders: • Stay organized – desk and folders/binder • Use assignment book daily • Be prepared for class with homework, books, pencils, etc. • Have a positive attitude • Respect others.

  3. Typical Daily Schedule 9:05-9:40 – Specials 9:45-10:00 – Spelling and Grammar 10:05-11:15 – Math (switch) 11:20-12:05 – Recess/Lunch 12:05-12:35 – Reading/Computer Lab 12:35-1:20 – RtI/Reading Groups (Switch) 1:20-1:35 - SME 1:35-2:30 – Writing 2:30-3:20 – Science/Social Studies

  4. Homework • Importance • 40 minutes per night (including independent reading time) • Independence • Asking for help – before leaving or before school the next day • Late Slips/Consequences

  5. READING • Scott Foresman Reading Street • 6-Day Cycle • Main Selection (anthology) • Leveled Reading Groups/Leveled Readers • Vocabulary • “Weekly” reading skill and strategy

  6. At-home READING • Monitored by homeroom teacher • 75 minutes per week • Signed reading log (due each Monday) • Verify that your child is reading.

  7. WRITING • Writing Domains • Focus • Content • Organization • Style • Conventions Copy of rubric in your Parent Folder

  9. WRITING WORKSHOP • 10 minute mini-lesson • 30 minute writing time • 5 minute sharing time • Student choice will be incorporated in writing workshop • Purposeful writing is important • Revising: a lot of time will be spent on revising strategies • Sharing time each day

  10. SPELLING AND GRAMMAR • SPELLING • Reading Street Cycle • Pretest • Up to 25 words depending on pretest • Practice • GRAMMAR • Reading Street Cycle – 1 skill each cycle • Practice • Daily Language Sheets

  11. MATH • Chapter 3 taught in homerooms • Students will be grouped and assigned a math teacher • Flexibility among groups
