NOMADS 1 COPC Action Item 2012-2.8: NCEP (in particular NCO) will host a teleconference meeting/s with the DOD OPCs to develop the way forward with NOMADS. 1) Investigate alternative paths (besides Internet) for the operational use by the OPCs. 2) Discuss architecture and backup capabilities. 3) Solve getting the DOD data flows on the NOMADS server for distribution. • Recently (late summer/early fall), the NOMADS server at the NOAA OCIO’s Web Operations Center (WOC) failed and NCEP created a emergency replacement at College Park. 1) The NCEP location may allow for a manual fix (from DOD Internet access to the COPC Network) as a tentatively feasible solution when/if DISA shuts down the public interface for a computer security situation. 2) Currently the backup NOMADS (Boulder) is not available from the COPC network but is accessible via the Internet. • However the Boulder NOMADS is not a fully function backup for the College Park NOMADS. (Upgrades are planned.)

NOMADS 2 3) Currently the College Park NOMADS is running on interim hardware and needs to get onto the permanent hardware before NCEP can add the AFWA dataset to NOMADS. • The schedule has transitioning to the permanent hardware in the April - June timeframe. CSAB recommends keeping this action opened.
