The GEMS Program

The GEMS Program aims to improve General Education Mathematics learning for freshmen at Lane College, who often struggle in math courses like MAT 125 (Algebra I) and MAT 126 (Algebra II). With 92% of incoming students scoring below the ACT benchmark for success, and consistent below-average scores in collegiate assessments, the need for data-driven improvement is clear. By analyzing various data points, the program seeks to address the challenges faced by students and reduce withdrawal and failure rates in math courses.
