Thermal Analysis of Al-CuO nanocomposites

Thermal Analysis of Al-CuO nanocomposites. Nancy Huemer. Two different nanocomposites were studied: Al-CuO milled with 1ml of hexane milling time 16 min. Al-CuO milled with 8ml of hexane milling time 60 min. Synthesized using ARM (arrested reactive milling).

  1. Thermal Analysis of Al-CuO nanocomposites Nancy Huemer

  2. Two different nanocomposites were studied: • Al-CuO milled with 1ml of hexane milling time 16 min. • Al-CuO milled with 8ml of hexane milling time 60 min. Synthesized using ARM (arrested reactive milling)

  3. Principle and Equipment used for experiments • Differential Scanning Calorimetry Diagram of the inside of a DSC Netzsch STA 409 PC Luxx DSC

  4. Different experiments performed • Kinetics in Argon -1 ml and 8 ml samples • Kinetics in Oxygen-1 ml and 8 ml samples • Heated samples to 740º C • Heating rates used • 5, 10, 20 and 40 k/min. • Quenching • Quenched samples of 8ml at 500º and 325º C

  5. Kinetics of 1ml in Argon

  6. Kinetics of 8ml in Argon

  7. Kinetics of 1ml in Oxygen

  8. Kinetics of 8ml in Oxygen

  9. Comparison of 1ml & 8ml in Ar Heating rate , 5 K

  10. Comparison of 1ml and 8ml in O2Heating rate , 5 K

  11. Comparison of 1ml in Ar and O2Heating Rate, 5 K

  12. Comparison of 8ml in Argon and O2 Heating Rate, 5K

  13. Quenching • Quenched 8ml samples to determine the nature of the exothermic events present in the plots of 8 ml in Argon. • 325º C • 500º C

  14. Oxidation • Tests in Oxygen were performed to study the difference between this and an inert Argon environment 1ml8ml

  15. SEM Images CuO Al Al-CuO milled with 8 mL milled with 1 mL

  16. Future Studies • XRD analysis of the quenched samples • Complete oxidation samples • Quenching in Oxygen at 500º C
