  2. The following grammar errors are frequently made when writing Hammurabi Sweeney rules. Be sure not to make these mistakes!

  3. Is it thanor then? “If you are caught taking pictures in class, _____ your cellphone will be confiscated.”

  4. “If you are caught taking pictures in class, then your cellphone will be confiscated.” Use then when you refer to when something will happen.

  5. Is it thanor then? I can text faster _____ you.

  6. I can text faster than you. Use “than” when you compare.

  7. Noun-Pronoun Agreement “If a student talks back to Hammurabi Sweeney, then they shall be given detention.”

  8. “If a student talks back to Hammurabi Sweeney, then they shall be given detention.” The noun “a student” must agree with its pronoun. Here, “a student” is singular, but “they” is plural. There is no agreement. The pronoun must be a singular pronoun (he or she)

  9. “If a student talks back to Hammurabi Sweeney, then he shall be given detention.”

  10. “If a student talks back to Hammurabi Sweeney, then she shall be given detention.”

  11. Avoid his/her “If a student is caught taking pictures in class, then his/her cellphone will be confiscated.”

  12. Avoid his/her & he/she “If a student is caught taking pictures in class, then his/her cellphone will be confiscated.”

  13. Avoid his/her ... “If a student is caught taking pictures in class, then his cellphone will be confiscated.”

  14. Avoid his/her ... “If a student is caught taking pictures in class, then her cellphone will be confiscated.”

  15. Avoid his/her ... “If a student is caught taking pictures in class, then the student’s cellphone will be confiscated.”
