  1. Motion notes I hope you aren’t getting “motion sickness already”

  2. Cool coasters huh??? • Soooo… how easy was it to have a 5 second run??? • Is 5 seconds a “long” time? • How would you describe the marble’s motion as it moved through the track? • Turtle

  3. Let us define something • Speed: • 2 components of speed: • 1: • 2: • Units of speed: • What is the speed of standing still? • Leonardo

  4. Math time!!!! • Units: miles/hour meters/second • Does it look like your are “x” or “÷” • Math of speed (write it out man) • raphael

  5. Practice, practice, practice (2) I want practice… gimme! Practice? I don’t need any stinking practice!

  6. No practice? Weak sauce! • Get to work suckers! • NAUGHTY! (2) Moving on suckers You should have done your homework. Now face…. The shredder!

  7. Practice makes perfect Just two to practice! • Good call students! • A little practice always helps! (1)

  8. Here’s one to try out! • What is the speed of… • A marble moves 10 m in 5 seconds • A person walking 2 meters in 2.5 seconds • Yarp…

  9. More coasters… • Yep… let us build this and see if we can use the math to figure out how fast those marbles are going… • And it is a great way to practice the speed calculation.. • yarp

  10. Speed part 2… Let me give you some more direction on this!

  11. Speed has categories • Constant speed • Average speed • Instantaneous speed • Which one did your coaster have?

  12. Is knowing your speed enough?

  13. Velocity = speed + direction • Velocity has the same math as speed but now you tell what direction you are going. • 5 m/sec WEST • Velocity triangle (draw it in!)

  14. Tri the triangle (triangle on board) • What is the velocity of… • A marble going 6 m east for 2 sec? • What is the time a marble has with a velocity of 4 m/sec west and moves a distance of 12 m?

  15. And just one more!!!! • What is the distance a baseball travels with a velocity of 20 m/sec south for 2 seconds?

  16. What’s your vector victor? • Vectors are arrows • The represent lots • Direction • Velocities • Forces • A woo hoo…

  17. What are these vectors saying? • Which one is faster? • Which one is more?

  18. What are these vectors saying? • Which one is faster? • Which one is more?

  19. Vector math • Draw me some adding vectors • Draw me some subtracting vectors

  20. What is the total • Total these vectors… 10 m 7 m 12 m 8 m 5 m

  21. Yes…. Practice time… • Time to practice… • It does make perfect… • One assignment.. • One more coaster… time to make an experiment… • Yarp that

  22. Time to wrap up velocity…part 3 You changed a variable… How did it change the velocity???

  23. Woa… what are you doing here? • Listen up Mr. S… that is found in the graphs and table section… you naughty…
