Legaldevelopments: European Union Council conclusions on Egypt Suspension and reassessment of export licences On 28 August, the Member States agreed to suspend export licenses to Egypt of any equipment which might be used for internal repression and to reassess export licences of equipment covered by Common Position 2008/944/CFSP and review their security assistance with Egypt. Euratom – South Africa agreement Cooperation in peaceful use of nuclear energy EURATOM and the Republic of South Africa have signed an agreement on 18 July 2013 for cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy. It will enable common work between South Africa and the EU on nuclear safety in the context of implementing the African Nuclear Weapon Free Zone Treaty (Treaty of Pelindaba), on non-proliferation and on the peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology.   7. Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons The OPCW Executive Council on 27 September 2013 adopted a historicdecision on the destruction of Syria’schemicalweapons. In a special session, the 41-member body agreed on an accelerated programme for achieving the completeelimination of Syria’schemicalweapons by mid-2014.  The decisionrequires inspections in Syria to commence from 1 October 2013.
