  1. ASERL Webinar: Workflow Changes to Support PDA at UCF Mary Page University of Central Florida February 7, 2013

  2. The Who Do How Do? • Originally thought PDA was an Acquisitions project. • All tasks -- profiling, record downloads, updates, deletes, statistics – were to be based in Acq. • However, needed catalogers for cat expertise and record management.

  3. The Who Do How Do? • Acquisitions: Profiling, deposit account, statistics. Needed training on MARC fields to differentiate PDA records from other resources. • Cataloging: Record loads, quality control, updates, and deletes.

  4. The Who Do How Do? • Acquisitions staff trained public services staff so they could identify PDA records. • Acquisitions staff trained selectors how to identify PDA records in our vendor’s system.

  5. Direct or Through a Vendor? • Duplication. • Use our existing book approval profile.

  6. Selecting a PDA Aggregator • Talk to the aggregators. • Talk to colleagues. • Just decide!

  7. Profile • Used existing approval plan slip profile. Titles we would have bought if we had the money. • Went back five years for all slip titles that we did not buy.

  8. Profile • Blocked all art and architecture. • No monographic series. • Price cap of $250.

  9. Cataloging Decisions • Enhanced discovery records with TOC. • TKR YBPEBL discovery 02072013 • TKR YBPEBL autopurch 02072013

  10. Records • Loaded about 15,000 initially. • Add roughly 150-200 per week. • Considering opening up profile to add more records.

  11. Short Term Loan • Three STLs then auto-purchase on the fourth use. • Pay a percentage of list price for each STL, then full list price at auto-purchase. • Catalogers are notified when auto-purchase occurs. • We love STL!

  12. PDA Usage • 2,298 STLs @ $16,098. About $7.00 per STL. • 77 Auto-purchases @ $7,645. About $99.00 per title. • Spent $23,743 since October 2011. • Original allocation $50,000.

  13. YBP GOBI Selection • Selectors can tell in GOBI if a slip title was loaded as a PDA title. • GOBI records will indicate: EBL auto DDA record sent (1/20/2013) OR EBL probable DDA (2/5/2013)

  14. YBP GOBI Selection • Can decide to firm order or leave as discovery record. • Can “force” a title to PDA manually.

  15. GOBI Record Indicates DDA
