  2. Quickwrite • The American Civil War further amplified the division of the United States in the 1860s. The North (The Union), composed of an Industrial economy, and the South (The Confederacy), composed of an agrarian society, disagreed on many issues, which they discussed, but many a times failed to agree after several compromises. It is argued that the issuesof the war was not so much the causesto the Civil War, but to the lack of compromise. In your opinion, which major dilemma pushed the United States to split and lead to a civil war? Give examples from your reading. • Describe a time when you had to compromise and explain why a compromise is important. What did you give up? What did you gain?
