  2. King Henry VIII He created the Church of England. Separated England from the Roman Catholic Church because he wanted a divorce.

  3. Martin Luther • Nailed the Ninety-Five Theses onto the Wittenberg Church door. • The Ninety-Five Theses protests abuse and indulgences performed by the clergy. • Initiated the Protestant Reformation

  4. John Calvin • Created a sect of Christianity similar to Martin Luther but it included the idea of predestination. * Predestination is the idea that everybody’s fate has been predetermined by God. This sect was called Calvinism.

  5. Hudreich Zwingli • Leader in the Swiss Reformation • Similar conclusions to Martin Luther about the scriptures. • He insisted that the Bible was the source of Christian truth rather than the Church.

  6. John Knox • Scottish leader of the Protestant Reformation. • Studied under John Calvin and brought the Protestant Reformation to Scotland.
