  4. 031-503-1015 CONDITIONS • You are at MOPP level 0. Given MOPP gear (chemical protective • Over garment, mask, hood, over boots, protective gloves, individual • Decontamination kits, and antidotes) and one of the following • Situations where you: • Are ordered to do so, • Learn a chemical attack is about to happen • Must enter an area where chemical agents have been used. • Recognize a chemical hazard. • Are attacked with chemical agents without warning STANDARDS Achieve MOPP level 4 within 8 minutes by performing all steps in sequence

  5. MOPP LEVEL 1 1. Put on MOPP gear for MOPP 1 a. Don the trousers 1. Put on the overgarment trousers over your normal duty uniform or over your undergarments in hot weather 2. Secure the trousers by snapping and zipping the trousers and adjusting the waistband for a snug fit b. Don the jacket 1. Put on the overgarment jacket 2. Zip it up 3. Fasten the snaps c. Secure the jacket to the trousers by snapping the three snaps across the back of the jacket to the trousers

  6. MOPP LEVEL 2 • Put on additional MOPP gear (protective overboots) to reach MOPP 2 • A. Put the older model chemical protective overboots on over the leather combat boots (Note: The older model has a single eyelet at the rear) • a. Don the cover on either foot by centering your foot on the sole • b. Lace through the front eyelet so the ends are the same length • c. Tie a single hitch by passing one lace end through each eyelet from the inside to the outside, drawing each lace end tight • d. Pass both ends through the rear eyelet from in the inside out • e. Bring the ends back through the side eyelets • B. Tie the lace tightly across the instep with a single hitch • C. Wrap the excess lace around your leg, tying the ends with a bow • Note: The lace should hold the rear eyelet firmly against the boot • D. Blouse the overgarment trouser legs over the protective overboots • E. Secure the Velcro closures of the government trouser legs by zipping and tying the drawstrings firmly

  7. MOPP LEVEL 3 3. Put on your protective mask with hood to reach MOPP 3 a, Don the protective mask b. Don the hood c. Zip up the hood d. Adjust the neck cord e. Attach the underarm straps Note: The time standards for masking do not apply to this task The “buddy system” is encouraged

  8. MOPP LEVEL 4 4. Put on additional MOPP gear to reach MOPP 4 a, Secure your MOPP gear by zipping all zippers and closing all closures b. Put on the chemical protective gloves (rubber gloves and liners) c. Pull the elastic cuffs of the overgarment jacket sleeves over the cuffs of the chemical protective gloves. 5. Additional MOPP posture is “mask only” (mask worn). This posture is not appropriate when a blister agent is present

  9. Decontaminate Yourself and Individual Equipment Using Chemical Decontamination Kits

  10. 031-503-1013(1007) CONDITIONS • You are at Mission-Oriented Protective Posture (MOPP) level 2 with remaining • MOPP gear available and have a full canteen of water, a poncho, LCE, and an • M258A1 Decontamination kit. You have??? • Been attacked with chemical agents • Passed through an area contaminated with chemical agents • Been exposed to radiological contamination STANDARDS Start the steps to decontaminate your skin and/or eyes within 1 minute after you find they are contaminated. Do not breathe while decontaminating your skin or eyes. Remove all contamination from your skin. Decontaminate all personal equipment after decontaminating your skin, face, and/or eyes.

  11. 1. Assume MOPP Level 3 (Don your mask and hood) • Seek overhead cover or use your poncho for protection against further contamination • Decontaminate your hands with decontaminating wipe 1 • a. Open the decontamination kit • b. Remove one decontaminating 1 packet • c. Fold the packet on the solid line marked BEND • d. Unfold the packet • e. Tear open the packet at the notch • f. Remove the wipe, fully unfolding it • g. Wipe your skin, starting with your hands (wiping downward)

  12. Decontaminate your eyes, if necessary. • a. Check your canteen for contamination (first) • 1. Remove your canteen from your LCE • 2. Unscrew the cap, avoiding possible contamination of the canteen by pushing up on the bottom of the canteen cover until you can grasp the canteen • 3. Check the canteen mouth for contamination using M8 detector paper. • a. If contaminated, obtain an uncontaminated canteen • b. Decontaminate the canteen mouth with M258A1 kit • b. Unseal your mask as follow: • 1. Hold you breath, close your eyes, lift the hood and mask from your chin • c. Flush your eyes with water from the canteen • d. Secure your mask by?? • 1. Resealing it • 2. Clearing it • 3. Checking it • e. Breath

  13. 5. Decontaminate your face. if necessary, with a decontaminating wipe 1. a. Unseal your mask b. Wipe up and down from ear to ear 1. Start at your ear 2. Wipe across your face to the corner of your nose 3. Wipe across your face to the other ear c. Wipe up and down from your ear to the end of your jawbone 1. Begin where step b ended 2. Wipe across your cheek to the corner of your mouth 3. Wipe across your closed mouth to the center of your upper lip 4. Wipe across your closed mouth to the corner of your mouth 5. Wipe across your cheek to the end of your jawbone d. Wipe up and down from one end of your jawbone to the other end of your jawbone 1. Begin where you ended in step c 2. Wipe across and under your jaw to your chin, cupping your chin 3. Wipe across and under your jaw to the end of your jawbone

  14. e. Turn your hand out and quickly wipe the inside of the mask that touches your face • Note: Do not wipe the mask lens. The decontaminating solution may leave a film on the lens. • f. Secure your mask. • 1. Resealing, clearing, checking. • g. Breathe • Decontaminate your neck and ears, if necessary, using the same decontaminating 1 wipe • Decontaminate your hands again with the same decontaminating 1 wipe • Bury the wipe if time permits

  15. Prepare the decontaminating 2 wipe • a. Pull out one decontaminating 2 wipe packet • b. Crush the enclosed glass ampule between your thumb and fingers without kneading • c. Fold the packet on the solid line marked CRUSH AND BEND • d. Unfold it • e. Tear the packet open quickly at the notch • f. Remove the wipe • g. Open the wipe fully • h. Dispose of the crushed glass ampule by burying it • Repeat steps 5 through 8 using the decontaminating 2 wipe • Put on your protective gloves • Fasten your hood • Make sure all skin areas you have decontaminated are covered

  16. Decontaminate your personal equipment • Note: Do not use the decontaminating kit on protective garments • a. Decontaminate weapons, gloves, helmet and hand tools using decontaminating 1 wipe first, then decontaminating 2 wipe • b. Decontaminate the exterior of the hood and mask • 1. Wipe eye lens outserts using a decontaminating 2 wipe • 2. Begin wiping the hood at the top working your way downward • 3. Repeat • A. and • B. above using decontaminating 1 wipe • Note: Using the wipes in the order will prevent a residue from forming on the eye lens outserts. • 15. Remove radiological contamination from your clothing, equipment, and exposed skin if necessary

  17. Protect Yourself From Chemical/Biological Contamination Using Your Assigned Protective Mask

  18. 031-503-1035 (1025) CONDITIONS • You have your assigned M40-series protective mask with hood. • You find yourself in one of the following situations where you: • Hear or see a chemical or biological alarm that indicates the • Presence of an agent. • Realize otherwise that you are under a chemical or biological • Attack • 3. Are ordered to mask STANDARDS Don your protective mask with 9 seconds (including clearing and checking the mask). Pull hood over your head and zip the front closed to cover all your bare skin

  19. WARNING DO NOT WEAR CONTACT LENSES WITH THE PROTECTIVE MASK. • Don your mask within 9 seconds • Don the hood so it lies smoothly on your head • Remove your protective mask with hood after the all clear order is given • Store your mask with hood
