  2. Are you keen to study, but wondering how you’ll afford it? • Would you like some financial assistance with your course fees, books and materials? • There are scholarships and awards available to help you!

  3. Scholarships • TAFE and Universities in Victoria offer a range of scholarships for students. These scholarships fall into two broad categories: • Access and Equity Scholarships for students experiencing financial difficulty with the costs of living and studying. Some Universities have a Refugee Access Scheme for people with a refugee or asylum seeker background (RMIT and Melbourne University). • Institutional Merit Scholarships awarded to high achieving students. They are funded and governed by individual institutions.

  4. Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarships (CECS) • Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarships (CECS) assist students with their education costs. • The scholarships are valued at $2,207 per year and are for up to four years

Am I eligible for a Commonwealth Scholarship? 1) Citizenship and residency You must be: an Australian citizen, or the holder of a permanent humanitarian visa 2) Enrolment You must be enrolled in as a full-time student in a TAFE or university course. 3) Socio-economic status • You must demonstrate financial hardship through receiving a Commonwealth income support payment (eg. Austudy) OR • on the basis of an assessment conducted by the provider.

  6. Institutional Merit Scholarships Examples: • Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarships (CECS) assist students with their education costs. • The scholarships are valued at per year and are for up to four years

Types of Institutional Scholarships: • Students studying a particular course (eg. nursing, business, accounting, art) • Students that have personal/financial difficulty • Students that live in certain areas (eg. the City of Whitehorse Scholarship, Deakin Whitehorse City Council Scholarship) • Scholarships usually range from $400-5000.The entry level scholarship is valued at $4,500 and is available in any area of study. 

  8. Am I eligible for an Institutional Scholarship? Applicants for an entry level scholarship must: • be Australian citizens or hold permanent resident status in Australia • meet all entry requirements for the courses as specified in the course information on the website • be offered a place in the specified course and undertake full time study in the specified course in 2010.

  9. How do I apply? • If applying through VTAC you can access the VTAC Scholarship Application online via MyInfo. • If you are applying direct to the TAFE or University check the institution's website to find out how to apply.

  10. When do I apply? • Scholarship applications through VTAC open: Early August • Scholarship applications through VTAC close: Late October • If you are applying direct to the institution check the institution's website for application dates.
