  6. Discovered? • The name potassium is from the English word ‘potash’. It originally meant an alkali extracted in water in a pot of ash of burnt wood or leaves • Sir Humphry Davy discovered it in 1807.

  7. Chemical and physical properties • Physical properties: soft, easy to cut with a knife, shiny in appearance immediately after a fresh surface is exposed. • Chemical properties: one of the most reactive metals, rapidly oxidizes in air

  8. Where it’s found • It is usually found in the deep sea. • It cannot be found in nature.

  9. Common uses • The most common use for this element is in fertilizers.
