Generalidades • Fundamentalmente marinas • Morfológicamente variables • Poseen un color pardo o sensiblemente amarillento. • Pueden formar grandes praderas marinas • Pueden tener bolsas o cámaras de gas que las ayudan a flotar • Abundantes en zonas rocosas • Habitan aguas frías o templadas, agitadas y bien aireadas

  4. Características • Todas las especies son pluricelulares • Los cloroplasto son generalmente discoidales y poséen clorofilas a y c • Paredes celulares compuestas por una matriz de microfibrillas • Presentan gametos y esporas con flajelos laterales

  5. Taxonomía • En la clase Phaeophyceae existen 265 géneros de los cuales tan solo 5 son dulceacuícolas, y de 1500 a 2000 especies. • En la actualidad se dividen en 14 órdenes.
