Who’s Who? • Maura Conlan – Administrative Assistant – “Go To Person” • Kristen Aiello – School Nurse • Mike Mackey – Custodian
Arrival • Students enter courtyard doors between 8:05-8:15
Tardy = student who arrives after 8:15 are late and need to enter through the front door • Excused Absence = student is sick; call absence line and send in a note • Unexcused Absence = student isn’t sick; call absence line or let teacher know in advance; no work may be made up including homework/tests • Early Dismissal = send in a note to teacher
Dismissal • School day ends at 2:22 • All students exit the building via courtyard doors • K-2 students = dismissed by staff • 3-5 students = not dismissed by staff
Early Bird Care • 7:05-8:05 in the Library • $5.00 per morning • Sign-up in advance; form is on-line • Mrs. Wood is in charge
Education Stations • After school care beginning at dismissal • Snack is provided; rotating stations various pick-up times & fee scale • Sign-up on-line • Staffed by “Education Stations” personnel
Early Release/Early Dismissal • Early Release: 2nd Wed. each month; 12:22 dismissal • “Early Release Programming” is available 12:22-2:22 sign-up in advance • $20 per afternoon • Early Dismissal: 11/26; 12/23; 2/13 & last day of school; 12:00 dismissal • No - “ERP” and Ed Stations
Specialists • Students participate in Art, Music, Health and Physical Education – 1 per week for 40 minutes • Important to have proper shoes and attire for P.E. • Teachers will share a schedule
Snack & Lunch • Students bring a healthy snack to school each day • Snacks MUST be peanut/nut free • Students may either buy lunch or bring a lunch • Check or cash payable to school “Melrose School Lunch” • Credit card payment available on website • Students are issued a “lunch id card” • Lunch DOES NOT need to be peanut/nut free • Grades: K & 1; 2 & 4; 3 & 5 • Students have 20 minutes
Recess • Students have a 20 min. recess immediately following lunch • Teachers supervise students on playground • Feels like temp. (www.weather.com) 20 degrees or below indoor recess and/or playground surface is dangerous
Extra Help • Teachers are required to provide extra help either before or after school • Sessions are 30 min. • Students are “invited” to attend
School Clubs • B.O.K.S. – “Build Our Kids Success” before school physical activity program run by parent volunteers • Lego Club – after school program run by parent volunteers • 100 Mile Club – after school running program run by school staff • Global Child – after school program exposes children to a different language run by outside agency
Volunteering • Volunteers must be registered with “The Bridge” • Teachers organize volunteers based on what they need • Volunteers are needed on some field trips • Weekly volunteer opportunities in the Library
P.T.O. • Parent Teacher Organization: A group of involved and invested parents who collectively help to support the learning of students • Meets monthly – 7:00-8:00 PM • Enrichment Programs, Hoover Garden, Technology Equipment, Social & Family Fun Events, Beautification Projects, Library Books, Teacher Stipends, Community Outreach, etc.
School Site Council • A group of parents, staff and community members who serve as an advisory group • Role is to help determine school goals & action steps that improve student outcomes • Goals and action steps are articulated in the school improvement plan (S.I.P.) • S.I.P. presentation takes place in the Spring • S.I.P. is available for you to view on our website
Communication • EMAIL! Everything is virtually paperless or available on line • “Principal’s Newsletter” is sent home monthly
