  4. Writing – LEAD 21 Rubrics (ideas, organization, word choice, voice, sentence fluency, conventions) Focus on mini-lessons with an expectation of using what is learned in written pieces Develop characteristics of quality writing

  5. Reading – LEAD 21 Science & Social Studies Related Themes Common Ground Seeking the Unknown Early America Forces of Nature New People, New Places A Kingdom of Green Foundations of Freedom Standing Up for What’s Right

  6. Reading – LEAD 21 Whole group, small group, independent practice At-Home Reading: BINGO Grid Self-selected reading Requirement – 1 BINGO grid per trimester 2 grids will earn bookmark & pencil

  7. Bridges into Mathematics Builds on concepts, skills, and visual models from earlier grades Students become more independent problem-solvers Strong manipulative curriculum

  9. Flexible Grouping for Curricular Areas Flexible grouping among all fifth grade classes Students may spend academic time in other classrooms Groups may change throughout the year Flexible groups are based on: Assessments Teacher observations Student growth

Assessments Math: Pre/post-assessment cover sheets for unit assessments will be sent home at the conclusion of each unit for parent signature Reading: Weekly assessment cover sheet will be sent home for parent signature (shows weekly reading skills that were covered) Per grade level District directive, all other reading assessments will be housed at school Writing: Published writing pieces/rubrics will be sent home for parent signature Science/SS: Tests will sent home for parent signture
