  19. Answer Question 3 The most Blessed Virgin Mary, in the first instance of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege granted by Almighty God, in view of the merits of Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the human race, was preserved free from all stain of original sin“. Although widely-held since at least late antiquity, the doctrine was not formally proclaimed until Pope Pius IX did so in 1854 in Ineffabilis Deus. Why would God create Jesus in a sinful human vessel? I believe the answer is that He didn't. He purified the vessel. That is what the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception is all about.

Mortal sin is committed with deliberateconsent of the sinner • “To die in mortal sin without repenting and accepting God’s merciful love means remaining separated from Him forever by our own free choice” (CCC 1033).

  27. Answer Question 7 What is the unforgivable sin? • It is final impenitence, therefore making forgiveness impossible. • Saint Thomas Aquinas says a sin is only unforgivable because it excludes forgiveness • Not specifically in offending the Holy Spirit with words. • It is refusing to accept what the Holy Spirit offers – salvation, refusing to ask for forgiveness and be penitent. • When one claims to have a 'right' to persist in evil—in any sin at all. • Taking one’s own life ie. euthanasia, suicide. You can’t go to confession after these sins.

The last four works are considered to be an obligation of all faithful to practice unconditionally.
