  1. Final Review: Science & Biology • What are requirements must be met for an experiment to be considered valid? • Distinguish between observations & inferences. • What does it mean to say something is “living”? Identify the 8 characteristics all living things share. • What are that different levels at which biology can be studied?

  2. Final Review: Basic & Biochemistry I • What is an isomer? • What must be done to bond to molecules together ? What is this process called ? To break bonds? • Identify the four organic biomolecules discussed. • Identify the atoms found in each • Identify the monomer(s) of each • Describe the functions of each • Distinguish between acids and bases.

  3. Final Review: Basic & Biochemistry II • What is the structure above an example of? • Identify the amino group, carboxyl group & variable group. • What is a hydroxyl group?

  4. Final Review: Cell Structure • Distinguish between prokaryotes & eukaryotes • Distinguish between plant and animal cells • Describe the function of the following organelles: • Nucleus • Endoplasmic Reticulum • Golgi apparatus (body) • Mitochondria • Chloroplast

  5. Final Review: Cell Transport • Describe the structure of the cell membrane. • Distinguish between active and passive transport and give 3 examples of each. • What will happen to an animal cell/plant cell in each of the following types of solutions? • Hypotonic • Isotonic • Hypertonic

  6. Final Review: Photosynthesis • What is the equation for photosynthesis? • What wavelength(s) of light do plants absorb most? Least? How does this relate to the color of a plant? • Identify the two stages of photosynthesis and give a very general description of what occurs in each. • Where in the chloroplast does each stage occur? • Identify 3 factors that would affect the rate of photosynthesis.

  7. Final Review: Respiration • What is the equation for cellular (aerobic) respiration? • How does anaerobic respiration differ? What is another name for this process? • Identify the three stages of cellular respiration and give a very brief description of what occurs in each. • Where does each stage occur? Give specific location for stages occurring within the mitochondria

  8. Final Review: Cell Cycle • Identify & describe the stages of the cell cycle. • Distinguish between mitosis & cytokinesis. • Identify & describe the four stages of mitosis. • Describe the structure of a chromosome. • Distinguish between sister chromatids & homologous chromosomes.
