  2. Target audience? • Family Reunion - sharing the information • trying to get missing details from relatives • can see what's missing • where they fit in • special occasion eg birthday, wedding • publication eg book

  3. Target audience? • website • CD • images to use in your genealogy program –multimedia • Email chart as attachment

  4. Fonts • fancy or plain - who are you aiming it to? • font size - granny with the glasses • beware of redrawing orientation

  5. Colours • coloured boxes: generations, groups - ancestors, descendants, one generation, all • coloured borders • shadows • no borders

  6. Coloured Lines • lines of descent • relationships

  7. Bold • 1st line of text - easier to see changes in surname • larger fonts for name, smaller for details

  8. What details to include • name only • all - useful to see what information is missing - not so good if you have a lot a small children in the tree • relationships • pictures

  9. Orientation • Top to bottom - typical form • Waterfall - most efficient use of space for Descendant charts

  10. Orientation • Left to right - depending on the contents will either: - use as little vertical space as possible as it moves across the chart, or - fan upward and downward equally as it moves across the chart

  11. Positioning Boxes - Dragging • Single • Branch • Global • Generation • Generation+

  12. Layering • Transparent • Opaque

  13. Images • pictures - preferred or selection • scanned documents such as certificates, maps • could be a chart you have already created, saved as a graphic and added as an image

  14. Images • Description and Memo in Reunion – useful particularly when creating web files if include option include Web Media Pages

  15. Time Line Charts • placing selected people with a particular event • customising “family” events

  16. Sharing Charts by Email • share a chart as a graphic file attachment to an email

  17. Web Media Pages • All pictures in Multimedia can appear as thumbnails if web media pages are created
