  2. How does the allusion add to the cartoon? • UNSUCCESSFUL answer: “God was going to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah, and decided to let Lot and his family escape as long as they didn’t look back at the destruction. Lot’s wife looked back and turned to a pillar of salt.”

  3. How does the allusion add to the cartoon? • Also an UNSUCCUESSFUL answer: “You need to know the details of the story to get the joke that Lot left his wife behind.”

  4. How does the allusion add to the cartoon? • SUCCESSFUL answer: “The artist is making a joke that Lot had to leave his wife behind because he was ordered by his doctor to avoid salt. It’s funny because in the original story, Lot’s wife was turned to salt for being disobedient to God.” -describe the difference between what’s happening in the cartoon and the original story being alluded to
