Traits, Facts, and Personality • Hera was queen of the gods. • She was strategic and sly. • She was born from Cronus and Rhea. • She angered her husband (Zeus) with her plots. • Hera was titled “Queen of Intriguers”. • She was always quarreling with her husband. • She was the goddess of marriage.

  3. Family • Married to Zeus, who is also her brother. • Hera and Zeus have a hundred-handed cousin named Briareus. • Has a sister named Demeter, the earth goddess. • Poseidon, god of the sea, was her brother. • Hades, god of the Underworld, was also her brother. • She had three children with Zeus: Ares (god of war), Hephaestus (smith god), and Eris (goddess of discord).

A Myth she is involved in This is one of the myths Hera is involved in: • Hera convinced the other gods and goddesses to join her in a scheme against Zeus. • They drugged his drink then tied him up while he slept. They took his thunderbolt, so he had no power. • When Zeus woke up, he realized he was trapped and tried to escape. His hundred-handed cousin, Briareus, untied all one hundred knots to free him. • Then, Zeus got up, grabbed his thunderbolt, and grabbed Hera. • He tied her up with golden chains and hung her in the sky. • Later, Zeus couldn’t sleep because Hera was sobbing. • She promised him not to plot against him again, so he freed her.

  5. FUN FACTS!!!! • Hera played a part in the Trojan War. (according to myths) • Her father ate his first five children. • She and Zeus’ wedding lasted for 300 years!!! • She had a monster with 100 eyes (named Argus). • Hera was said to have sent two serpents to kill Hercules when he was born. • Myths say that she created the Milky Way galaxy.
