REVOLUTIONS AND NATIONALISMS CH14 SEC
Following the fall of the Qing Dynasty in the early 20th century, China faced a power struggle between nationalist forces led by Sun Yixian and the emergent Communist Party under Mao Zedong. Nationalism sought to end foreign domination and establish a modern government while Communism aimed to mobilize the rural peasantry against imperialism. The May Fourth Movement marked a significant cultural awakening, leading to a clash between nationalists and communists, ultimately giving rise to the Chinese Civil War. This period laid the groundwork for modern China's political landscape.
