  3. Thursday, October 2, 1997 University Chronicle Drunken Driver Admits Guilt Cory Schilling, of Pierz, pleaded guilty Tuesday in Stearns County District Court. He admitted to killing Jody Kleve on May 10, 1996, when his car slid on wet pavement. He also admitted to consuming vodka less than an hour before the accident. At 12:51 a.m. Schilling was driving down Division Street near Seventh Avenue when his car slid out of control and hit a light pole.

  4. Kleve, 19, was a passenger in Schilling's Chevrolet Camaro. Mary Sauer and Michelle Waldorf, also each 19 years old and passengers in the car, received head injuries. Tests show Schilling's blood-alcohol content to be .07 an hour after the incident. The limit in Minnesota is .10 to be considered legally drunk, but since Schilling was only 20 years old at the time of the accident, that rule does not apply. Also, it was determined Schilling was going 39 miles per hour, nine miles over the legal limit. Schilling accepted a plea agreement in which he will serve a three-year prison sentence on a homicide charge.
