Video in the Classroom • Video content is a highly engaging and effective teaching tool. • Good at representing procedural & imagery knowledge: • E.g., operate a machine: take a virtual tour of York College • A safe and rich learning environment: • Role play in a virtual hospital; Swim Demo • Adaptive to individual student’s learning pace • Replay, zoom, and slow the motion • Producing videos doesn’t require fancy equipment anymore!

Equipment/Resources (wrap-up) • Camcorder, or digital camera/mobile phone (with built-in video features). • Computer with software for editing • Mac: iMovie, Final Cut Pro • PC: Movie Maker (free), Premier • External storage • Tape, CD, DVD, Flash/USB, Hard drive, etc. • Accessories (e.g., tripod, remote control)

  5. Video Production Processes • Plan — establish goals, create storyboard • Collect primary sources • Video/Audio • Images • Script • Edit • Publish/Distribute

  6. Example 1: Global Warming • What is it? • What’s the impact? • What could be the cause of it? • Cite various points of view • Take a position and support your viewpoint with reasons, facts, and examples. • Actions that should be taken.

  7. Example 2: A place you last visited • Where is it? • Its history, population, & industry • Food, culture, or place of interests • What did you do, see, hear? • Do you (dis)like it? Why? • Recommendations or suggestions to future visitors.
