Who We Are - PTA’s Mission To support and speak on behalf of children and youth in the schools, in the community, and before governmental agencies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children To assist parents in developing the skills they need to raise and protect their children To encourage parent and public involvement in the public schools of the nation 5 5

6. PTA’s Purpose To promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school, community, and place of worship. To raise the standards of home life. To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth. To bring into closer relation the home and the school, that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth. To develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for all children and youth the highest advantages in physical, mental, social and spiritual education 6 6

Family-School Partnerships Welcoming all Families into the School Community Families are active participants in the life of the school, and feel welcomed, valued, and connected to each other, to school staff, and to what students are learning and doing in class. Communicating Effectively Families and school staff engage in regular, two-way, and meaningful communication about student learning. Supporting Student Success Families and school staff continuously collaborate to support students’ learning and healthy development both at home and at school, and have regular opportunities to strengthen their knowledge and skills to do so effectively. 12

Family-School Partnerships Speaking up for Every Child Families are empowered to be advocates for their own and other children, to ensure that students are treated fairly and have access to learning opportunities that will support their success. Sharing Power Families and school staff are equal partners in decisions that affect children and families and together inform, influence, and create policies, practices, and programs. Collaborating with Community Community resources are used to strengthen schools, families, and student learning. 13
