  5. Academic Secondary School • Non-vocational • Prepares for higher education • Length of programme: 4 years (regular) 5 years (bilingual education) 6 years (from age 12 to 18) 8 years (from age 10 to 18) • Certificate awarded: secondary school leaving certificate

  6. Vocational and Vocational Secondary Schools • In vocational secondary school: secondary school leaving certificate • In vocational school: lower level vocational qualification • Basic education: 4 years • Professional practice: about 2 years

Higher education • Bologna process • Based on three consecutive cycles • Bachelor, Master and Doctorate courses • Institutions (universities and collages) may offer courses in all three cycles • Universities are eligible to provide Master courses in at least two fields of study and to offer Doctorate courses as well as to confer Doctorate degree • Divided (two-tier) and undivided (one-tier) programmes • Higher-level vocational training, postgraduate specialist training and adult education (lifelong learning) • A intermediate language exam is needed to get their degree

  17. Integrated (one-tier) programmes • Undivided • Length 10-12 semesters • Result a Master degree • Besides religious education and some programmes of arts, the following programmes: veterinary medicine, architecture, dentistry, pharmaceutics, law and medicine

  18. First/ Second Degree Programmes • Bachelor course 6-8 semesters Bachelor degree • Master course Built on Bachelor course 2-4 semesters Master degree • Final examination: Defence of degree thesis and additional oral, written and practical examination

  19. Specialised Graduate Studies • Higher education institutions may offer a postgraduate specialist training for Bachelor and Master degree holders. • Students complete their studies by passing a final examination. • Length of programme is 2-4 semesters.
