Objectives • Explain the components of accountability before and after 2009 • Articulate the perspectives of various stakeholders, specifically teachers, parents, politicians, and unbiased researchers • Recommend changes to the current accountability system of teacher education preparation programs in Texas and nationwide
Educator Preparation Program • Washington State Legislature: • “a program that requires the candidate to demonstrate in multiple ways, over time, specific professional Educator Standards Board-required standards, criteria, knowledge, and skills, including, where appropriate, evidence related to positive impact on student learning”
Approval Process • Attend TEA applicant conference • Submit a New Educator Preparation Program Application and Proposal to Educator Standards • Pre-approval site visit • TEA submit program information to SBEC Board

Rule Revisions (TAC 228) • For initial certification: 300 total hours of coursework/training • 30 hours field-based experience • 80 hours coursework/training prior to internship • 6 hours test prep • For professional certification: 200 total hours of coursework/training related to standards for specific area • Mentoring • Program observations/field supervision
