  1. International Terrorist Organizations By Andrew Chase

  2. What is Terrorism? A terrorist action is defined, by the United Nations Secretary General as any act "intended to cause death or serious bodily harm to civilians or non-combatants with the purpose of intimidating a population or compelling a government or an international organization to do or abstain from doing any act."

  3. History The term was coined by the French during the Reign of Terror First cases were catapulting the heads of fallen soldiers into cities during sieges to break morale.

  4. ITOs al-Qaeda Hezbollah Irish Republican Army Taliban

  5. How Globalization Affects It Terrorism is, in a way, a result of and in opposition to globalization. Terrorist groups themselves violently protect some aspect of their way of life changing. If the violence is too extreme, larger countries step in to stop them. Terrorism can be considered a backlash to globalization, or any change in way of life in general.

  6. Effects on Globalization Terrorism opposes globalization. Terrorism, in some way, sustains the way of life of a group of people. Also seeks to oppress, rule, or eliminate a group. This opposes the idea of an eventual unified world by glorifying isolationism.

  7. Effect on Globalization Ironically, in some ways global terrorism strengthens globalization. Without the mass media, terrorism would lack an audience. Counter terrorist measures provide common ground over which countries work together. Brings attention to distant parts of the globe, making the world smaller.

  8. Conclusion ITOs have arisen as the natural opponent to globalization as the role of the state has started to decline. Ironically, by usurping their own state, they end up furthering the end goal of globalization. While global terrorism will never come to an end, the initial backlash to an increasingly small world may subside in the years to come.
