  2. What to Export? Generally speaking, • U.S. places few restrictions on exports other than defense, agriculture, livestock • Other countries have greater restrictions on imports, e.g. protect domestic industries

  3. Product Likely to Succeed Abroad… • If product successful in U.S., exported to markets with similar needs and conditions; If product sales declining in U.S. exported to less sophisticated markets. • If product is unique, hard to duplicate. • E.g.High technology or proprietary process; Brand image. • If product is compatible with the local market needs. • E.g. Developing countries demand essential manufactured goods, while the more industrialized countries demand capital goods and a variety of consumer products and services. • If product is highly adaptable, flexible in operation, durable, and dependable because such products can easily accommodate the needs of multiple markets. http://www.export.gov success stories
