  3. Question #1 • Britain and Spain are hurting and bullying me, but I can’t fight back and do anything about it!! • HELP ME DR. PHIL!!!!!

  4. Dr. Phil’s Response • I CAN’T HELP YOU!! • Confederation Congress could not force states to provide soldiers; there was no strong FEDERAL Army!!

  5. Question #2 • Trade is HORRIBLE!!! Britain is unfair! They are still getting away with unfair taxes, but I can’t tax back! • HELP ME DR. PHIL!!!!

  6. Dr. Phil’s Response • I CAN’T HELP YOU!! • Britain could sell products to America for CHEAP, thus hurting American businesses because they couldn’t compete with those prices • If America wanted to trade with Britain would tax it • Confederation Congress had no power to tax!! • States could, but Britain could just get it from somewhere else!

  7. Question #3 • I am from Virginia. I want to trade with other states because I CANNOT STAND Britain!! However, trading with other states is just as bad! • HELP ME DR. PHIL!!!!

  8. Dr. Phil’s Response • I CAN’T HELP YOU!! • States made their own rules to make money which made trading from state to state very difficult and inconsistent • Confederation Congress could NOT regulate trade from state to state

  9. Question #4 • If money is low, why can’t I just print more money and the U.S.’s financial problems are solved? • DOES THAT MAKE SENSE DR. PHIL?

  10. Dr. Phil’s Response • NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! • Inflation occurred • States printed their OWN money, which created many problems • Increased prices + lower value of dollar + unemployment = ECONOMIC DEPRESSION • Congress had no power to stop it!!

  11. Question #5 • I am a farmer. I feel I am being taxed and treated unfairly by my OWN STATE!! Why are farmers treated so bad and what can I do? • HELP ME DR. PHIL!!!!

  12. Dr. Phil’s Response • I CAN’T HELP YOU!! • States needed to raise money to get out of debt, so they taxed land (farmers have more land, so pay more taxes) • Daniel Shay and Shay’s Rebellion • LAST STRAW

  13. Dr. Phil’s Final Thoughts • I’m an idiot • I’m just on TV because of Oprah • People just like my accent
