  3. History • Originated in the early 1960s with American Cable Systems, Inc. in Tupelo, Mississippi • Expansion of company began in the late 1960s through the 1970 • Ralph J. Roberts moved the company to the Philadelphia region • Made company a franchise in Abington, Cheltenham, and Upper Darby, PA • Purchased other local cable companies • 1969- Changed company name from “American Cable Systems” to “Comcast Corporations” • “Communication” + “Broadcast” = Comcast • Since its origins, Comcast Corporation serves the all around the United States and the United Kingdom • Currently the 4th largest cable company in the United States Ellen Hwang 101
