Registration and approval (feed) • MAST is responsible for the registration and approval of feed business operators, as defined in Article 3, point 5 in regulation EC No 178/2002 on food law and food safety, in accordance with article 9 and 10 in regulation EC No 183/2005 on feed hygiene. • MAST has until 1 March 2010 registered and approved feed businesses in accordance with Decision EC No. 95/69 on conditions for approving and registering establishments and intermediaries in the feed sector etc.

Control activities - feed • Yearly control plan based on risk assessment, previous findings and RASFF notifications. • Feed Business Operators registered / approved at MAST are divided into 5 risk based categories. • In higher risk groups the focus of control is on verification of internal quality management systems and sampling. • In lower risk groups the focus of control is on registration, examining documentation and import control.

Bivalve molluscs • The Directorate of Fisheries is the competent authority for the approval and registration of shellfish growers according to Regulation No 71/2008 on Aquaculture. • There is a bill before the parliament, MAST will be the CA (1.7.2010) • Currently there are two approved production areas in Iceland. Both grow mussels (Mytilus edulis) in production areas classified as A (regulation (EC) No 854/2004, Annex II, Chapter II, A). • There are two dispatch centres but no purification centre or relaying area. Monitoring program is in the production areas for algae  ( Alexandrium  ssp., Pseudonitchia  ssp., Dinophysis  spp.) , biotoxins (PSP, DSP, ASP) and E.coli.
