2. Background Address geocoding is the process of determining the spatial or geographic location of single or multiple addresses of interest.

3. Required Information • Reference data, which contains the location of roads and attributes like name, street type, to and from address numbers (for each side of the road), etc… • A table or list of addresses that you want to locate spatially. • An address locator, which defines the way the reference data is used to find matches with the addresses of interest. • This is created in ArcCatalog.

4. Reference data example • Road layer with attributes like: • Name • Type – street, drive, lane, etc… • Predir and Suffix – N, S, E, W, NE, etc… • L or R F_ADD and T_ADD – the to (T) and from (F) address numbers on the left (L) and right (R) sides of the road
