  3. Interesting facts about the bones in the human skeleton • The human skeleton consists of 206 bones. • The smallest bone in the skeleton is the stirrup bone. • The largest bone in the skeleton is the femur.

  4. Why do we have a skeleton? • First the skeleton gives support. • The skeleton provides protection for the important organs of the human body • Bones in the skeleton produce red blood cells.

  5. The Skull • The skull protects the brain. • The skull which is connected to the vertebrae does not have any movement.

  6. A Hinge Joint • The x-ray of the knee is an example of a hinge joint. • A hinge joint is a joint which can only move forward and backwards.

  7. A Sliding joint • The x-ray of the hand and the wrist is an example of a sliding joint. • The sliding joint is a joint which has plenty of movement.

  8. A Ball and Socket Joint • The x-ray of a hip joint is an example of a ball and socket joint. • The ball and socket joint also has plenty of movement as it can move around everywhere.
